Global Networking using social media

Global Networking using social media

Global Networking using Social Media

Andy Knill, The Albany School
2015

This article describes a personal journey to develop a wider professional learning network (PLN). It shows how two networks to link with educators on a global scale have been established using Twitter. It will be of interest to schools as an example of the use of social media as a professional development tool. It is also useful for individuals who seek contact with a wider range of people with shared professional interests and may be of use for teacher education courses too. Within the article there are links to personal blog posts and video examples of presentations at Teachmeets in person and through video pieces. The two networks are:

(i) SOLO taxonomy users (@globalsolo): the use of Solo Taxonomy as a pedagogy in the teacher toolkit to encourage explicit differentiation of learning outcomes and tasks;

(ii) a special interest group (@gasigict) of the Geographical Association about websites and apps to use as teaching resources in geography teaching.

Both PLN are open to all: @globalsolo and @gasigict on Twitter
