Day one – Who are we? Professional introductions to a multi-talented Poskole community
Day two- What do we know? Exchanging our knowledge in a multi-talented international community ending in a MirandaMod….
Day three- What wisdom can we create collaboratively? in multi-authored products that will be valuable for policy makers, theory developers and practitioners? How can we refine this to develop professional development programmes for teachers and lecturers that will prepare them for a future we can only guess at.
Aims
- to develop a collaborative digital map and other resources about what the 21st century teacher needs to know about digital technologies and why including ideas for new kinds of assessment of knowledge and skill;
- to develop new courses in educational innovation for the MirandaNet iCatalyst programme;
- to facilitate a professional development experience amongst all the participants who engage in this collaboration to publish joint resources, academic papers and articles designed to influence policy and practice internationally and provide evidence for new bidding proposals;
- to learn how to organise unconferences and to refine the unconference process so that it can be constantly improved in further Poskole, MirandaNet and Learning Future events;
- to set up working groups to develop a funding strategy and identify the next proposals to be submitted;
- to plan proposals for unconferences in Prague in October 2012 for practising teachers and for an international strand of a conference for teacher educators in Bedford, July 2013.
Outcomes
Setting up a working party that will:
- use the collaborative materials to develop briefings for policy makers
- make bids to funding bodies like the EU
- develop an international online community online for knowledge exchange
- develop the programmes for 3 unconferences: University of Bedfordshire October 2012 and July 2013 : Poskole Prague, Spring 2013?
- develop international professional development modules for the MirandaNet iCatalyst professional development programme
- International educational concepts working party to produce a glossary led by Dughall McCormick
The ‘unconference’ approach
This workshop will be run as a modified type of ‘unconference’ called a MirandaMod. In these events a wide range of education professionals choose a theme for a face-to-face meeting that will be important in their own informal professional development. On Thursday 7th in the afternoon, other MirandaNetters will join in online using a range of such digital communications technologies such as video conferencing, microblogging and collaborative concept maps that emphasise the social element of learning. This professional development event is thus widely disseminated, both synchronously and asynchronously. The resulting resources that will include collaborative publications are archived on the MirandaNet website.
All the participants are considered to be equal in importance. Invited experts on key topics only talk for about 10 minutes plus questions preferably without using presentation software. These talks are expected to promote democratic engagement within the groups informed by the expert inputs.
Partners
This international ‘Poskole’ community of leaders in digital technologies in education and the Czech Miranda have been holding events and publishing together since the early 1990s. This year we have invited MirandaNet associates and colleagues from the new Learning Futures Research Centre at the University of Bedfordshire to join us. As a result there will be about twenty five participants from Bulgaria, England, Germany, Slovakia, The Czech Republic and The Netherlands sharing our latest ideas about educational innovation.

Web enabled devices
All participants are advised to bring a web enabled device and practice using the Mirandamod software before they come. Instructions and registration details will be supplied soon.
Creating resources
Theo Keuchel will be developing an area for all our contributions before, during and after the MirandaMod…we are planning something a little different from conference proceedings with a longer life and more value to the Learning Futures/MirandaNet community of practice. All participants will be expected to contribute to the MirandaMod resources. You can add to this list before the unconference if you wish. Send to christina@mirandanet.ac.uk
